Grace and truth in Jesus Christ (John 1:14)
Why the gospel is both comforting grace and clarifying truth — and why we need both.
John says that Jesus is “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). Those two words belong together.
John 1:14 (KJV)
“...full of grace and truth.”
Grace means God’s undeserved kindness to sinners. It comforts the guilty and welcomes the weak.
Truth means God tells us what is real: who He is, what sin is, and why we need saving. Truth corrects us when we drift.
When we separate them, we get problems:
- Grace without truth becomes vague comfort that never heals.
- Truth without grace becomes harshness that crushes people.
In Jesus, grace and truth meet. The gospel is both good news and true news.
